Bio

My name is Torina Johnson and I have been a teacher at A.W. Brown Leadership Academy for over 12 years. It only seems like yesterday that I started, but things have changed a lot during that time as we have grown from a one room school located at a church of less than 200 children, to a growing school of over 2,000 children.

Every day is different in my role as a teacher. I love leading the students, challenging and supporting them and making sure the children are the best they can be. We have a great team of teachers and support on our third-grade team and working together I am sure each student will achieve success.

I am a native of Dallas, Texas. I am a graduate of Texas Woman’s University in Denton. I am also the proud mother of one daughter who will be entering 9th grade this year.

Teaching is so rewarding because I am serving others and it gives me a sense that I am making the world a better place one student at a time. What I like best is the fact that it is the children who are responsible for leading these exciting projects of learning.

My teaching philosophy is very simple. Students do not care how much you know, until they know how much you care. I show my caring by forming relationships with students and trying to help them find their dreams and strengths so they can believe in themselves the way I believe in them. They are our future and have unlimited value.

When I am not at school, I enjoy relaxing, watching tv, and spending time with my family. My favorite color is purple and I collect magnets from different states.

Working together I know this will be a fantastic year. I look forward to partnering with you.
